Van Django treated a full house of loyal fans to a great concert on Sunday afternoon in Pender Harbour. They served up a generous helping of their signature gypsy Jazz standards á la Django Rienhardt and Stéphane Grappelli, and threw in a little “jazzified” Beethoven under the name of a piece called “The Fist of Beethoven”. They augmented all that with some newer offerings, including several written by band members, including “Chanson de Cowboy” written by Finn Manniche and “Jammin’ with Liam” written by Budge Schachte for his 6-year-old son. Take the guitar stylings of Budge and Finn, add the bedazzling bass of Brent Gubbels and the fantastic fiddling of Cameron Wilson, blend it with a dollop of their signature visual humour, and you have a recipe for success.
