What a delight to welcome harbour favourites, Joan Blackman, violin, Julia Nolan, saxophone, and Jane Hayes, piano, joined by two brilliant young cellists . . . Henry Shapard, and Hannah Adarrio-Berry.
Two concerts – Saturday, August 12, we were treated to a brilliant performance Wartime Masterpieces through music of Britten, Shostakovich and Ravel. Programme notes and narration by the musicians clearly placed the compositions in the context of what was happening on the world stage. Seldom do we hear such a brilliant performance of these major 20th Century compositions.
Sunday, August 13, the musical journey through France and Spain was totally delightful and engaging. Music of Ravel, Sarasota, Faure and the History of the Tango by Piazzolla had the audience transported by familiar, beautiful melodies and seductive rhythms.
We had a totally enjoyable and transporting weekend . . . thank you to brilliant musicians and phenomenal ensembles.
