If you’ve been hearing hammers, drills, and other construction noises coming from the general direction of the dock for the last few days, it is not the ghost of April Tools come back to haunt us, it is the sound of renovations happening at the School of Music.

The PH Music Society is pleased to announce that, with the help of a generous anonymous donor, we have begun work to enclose the patio overlooking the harbour, which will provide more seating for our Festivals and our Winter Concert Series. The plan is to build a permanent roof, and walls with lots of opening windows so we don’t lose our beautiful view or the chance to enjoy fresh sea breezes. This means that, when needed, we will be able to open the doors and seat a few more audience members on the patio. In the past, we have done this for Festivals using a tent, but that doesn’t quite work for winter concerts, so this is a major step forward for us. It also means that the various community groups who use our facility will have extra space for their programs as well. A real win-win!

After consultations with the SCRD (owners of the building) and getting all the proper permits, work commenced in mid -June and our hope is to have it all done before the Chamber Music Festival in mid-August. So please bear with us during the construction stage. It will be worth it!

This was announced at our recent AGM, at which time we also updated those in attendance on our two Festivals, our last concert season and next, as well as activities of the Choir and our newest offering, our monthly Coffee House (2nd Friday each month). For information on any of these, check out our newly updated website or feel free to contact anyone of our current directors:
