Easter Sunday at the School of Music was delightfully festive thanks to the warm smiles and impressive talents of Elizabeth and Marcel Bergmann. It takes both trust and bravery to approach the challenging repertoire for piano four hands. For most aspiring pianists, having just one pair on hands on the keyboard is intimidating enough, but placing the physical presence and artistic expression of another musician in that small space significantly raises the level of difficulty. Their program was well chosen for spring – powerful Rachmaninoff combined with a more pensive Schubert, rollicking Spanish dances and Argentine tango and, finally, Bach to bring our thoughts back to Easter.
