A welcome ray of sunshine arrived in Pender Harbour when Miss Dawn Pemberton swept in to provide a little blues/soul/funk to brighten our winter. She has a voice that starts somewhere around her ankles and rises in a throaty rumble through the top of her being. At times you could feel the room vibrate! Dawn delighted her audience with a selection of her own compositions as well those of legends such as Stevie Wonder. She sings of love – the “maybe” kind of love, the “truly” kind of love and saddest of all – love gone. Probably the most powerful song of the afternoon was one she wrote for her brother who has been “lost” to her family for many years. This lady is a musical powerhouse and an all-round lovely person whom we would be pleased to have grace our stage anytime.
