Adi Braun turned the Pender Harbour School of Music into a German Cabaret reminiscent of the 20’s and 30’s on Sunday afternoon. She sang the songs of Kurt Weill and painted a vivid picture of Germany in the period between the First World War and the rise of Nazism. She also featured the music made popular by Peggy Lee, Rosemary Clooney, Barbra Streisand and other “strong women” she respects. And she shared the stories behind the music which makes it all come alive. With Tilden Webb on piano, Jodi Proznick on bass, and Jesse Cahill on drums, she gave us “That Old Devil Moon” and “Honeysuckle Rose”, plus “Mack the Knife” in German and so much more. She also showed off her incredible talent for whistling in a couple of the songs and even whistled the first few notes of a symphony. Not surprising happy audience members were whistling as the left the concert!
