The May 8 SoM Coffee House was a wonderful evening of accomplished performances!
Paula Seward opened the show with some beautiful lovesongs (mostly sad) from the 40’s to the 60’s. Her Patsy Cline numbers were sensitively done and the piano accompaniment enhanced her alto vocals. Reflections ladies’ ensemble sang an entertaining and polished set, complete with props for the last song, ‘Crawdad Hole’. Intermission was a time to enjoy visiting and sampling the decadent desserts baked by Pender Harbour Choir members. The last half featured Sean Veley singing a varied program of his favourite songs, accompanied by his mom, Joy McLeod on piano. Sean’s powerful baritone voice and relaxed stage presence had the audience singing along to favourites from Gilbert & Sullivan to My Fair Lady to wartime songs. He also treated the crowd to an introduction to the brass baritone and demonstrated some pieces he plays with a Vancouver-based Balkan brass band.
