“Fred Penner Fred Penner delighted the young and the “young at heart” at two concerts on Saturday, Nov 23.
How do you keep 80+ little kids entertained for an hour and at the same time bring their parents and grandparents to the point of nostalgic tears – just ask the legendary Fred Penner. Yes, that Fred Penner – the one with whom we sang and danced for years in our living rooms via his not to be missed TV show. From the moment he stepped on stage at the Pender Harbour School of Music, we were all back in front of our TV’s and the words and music to Sandwiches, The Itsy Bitsy Spider and, of course, The Cat Came Back, miraculously reappeared on our tongues. With his strong baritone voice and delightful vocal and guitar backup from long-time collaborator Paul McNeil, Penner had his diverse and often wiggly audience with him all the way. What was obvious throughout is that Fred Penner clearly loves and respects his young audience and the adults who bring their children and grandchildren to experience his gentle magic. Sincere thanks to the Rotary Club of Pender Harbour, the Community School and individual sponsors who invited Mr. Penner to visit here for the first time. We all hope The Cat comes back to see us very soon.
