Virtuoso Brazilian guitarist, percussionist, multi-instrumentalist and composer, Celso Machado, transports his audiences through the richness and diversity of Brazilian music and beyond. For forty years Celso Machado has been performing on concert stages throughout Brazil, Western Europe, Scandinavia, Canada, and the United States. Considered one of the most versatile and exciting musician/composers of Brazilian music today, his guitar technique is but one of his passions; his gift for making music out of anything and everything around us is his mission in life.

Daniel Bolshoy is committed to bringing the guitar to the attention of audiences everywhere. He is regularly praised for his friendly and informative spoken introductions, and progressive programming of solo and chamber music. His concert tours take him from prestigious international concert stages to remote villages and house-concerts. He now makes his home in Vancouver, where he heads the guitar division at the University of British Columbia School of Music. He is also the head of the guitar department at the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra School of Music.

Both artists have appeared on our stage before, but now we get to listen to them together, exploring the many different faces of their instrument. Please join us on Sunday May 12, 2pm at the Pender Harbour School of Music.

Scotland’s foremost troubadour, Archie Fisher, returned to the stage at the School of Music on March 10, 2013, as part of the PHMS Concert Series. He gave an enchanting afternoon performance to a capacity audience.

Here, he poses with long-time fan Joan Baker. The Bakers first heard Fisher at the University Folk Club, Dundee, Scotland in the mid sixties, at the beginning of his career.

Archie was happy to sign the fifty year old albums for Joan, who now lives on the Sunshine Coast.

Think you ‘don’t like jazz?’ Think again! We focus on accessible, lyrical jazz in all styles, that have had folks who were SURE they didn’t like jazz coming back for more. There are some international stars, local groups, young and up comers, and the who’s who of the BC Jazz scene. There really is something for everyone. Our greatest accomplishment has been to hear people tell us each year; ‘you know I never thought I even liked jazz, but if this is jazz, I Love it!”

So make the drive/sail to Pender Harbour, September 20, 21, 22nd, and treat yourself to any of the 19 performances. There are 11 free events, and only three ticketed event featuring 8 performances. You can’t go wrong, and you might go jazz!

Master guitarist, singer and songwriter Archie Fisher is known throughout the country as the host of BBC Radio Scotland’s award-winning “Travelling Folk” show, which he has presented for over 25 years. He is, well, a legend.

His Gaelic and Glasgow roots influence his song writing and playing, as have many fellow musicians he encountered over the years, including Lonnie Donegan, Bert Jansch, John McKinnon, Tommy Makem, John Renbours and Garnet Rogers. But Archie remains one of a kind, a gem we are thrilled to have back on our stage.
