“Four hugs a day – that’s the minimum….” is one of Charlotte Diamond’s most beloved songs and yesterday Charlotte and son Matt bestowed a maximum number of musical hugs on fans small and tall. Through long-time favourites such as I Am a Pizza and Slippery Fish to the wonderfully creepy Looking for Dracula, complete with swirling black cape and fangs, the audience, ranging in age from newborns to grandparents, was encouraged to sing, dance and become part of the show. At one point, young children were invited on stage and, to the surprise of many adults present, volunteers rocketed out of their seats. Only Charlotte Diamond could do that! In the span of one short hour, she used numerous languages – including signing – to underscore that, no matter where we live or in what language we communicate, we all share the need for love and a responsibility to care for the natural world. Hugs back to you, Charlotte and Matt.
