A cappella heaven descended on Pender Harbour yesterday in the form of the choral group musica intima. Eight superbly gifted singers stood in a half circle and sang to each other and to their spellbound audience. No accompaniment, no choir leader, just the power of the human voice in the perfectly suited intimacy of our small concert space. The well chosen repertoire moved from devotional music through modern Canadian compositions that were all about sound and emotive energy, to Latin American pieces that generated their own vibrant heat and, finally, to the music of Pete Seeger. To hear the choir and the audience, full of fine voices from choirs up and down the Coast, sing We Shall Overcome was truly one for the memory book.
